Immaginatevi l’archetipica immagine di un bluesman, emarginato dalla società e perseguitato da demoni personali. Uno che suonava la chitarra enfatizzando il ritmo e l’uso del “bottleneck” slide. Uno che, in qualsiasi città, avreste potuto trovare a cantare all’angolo di una strada, di fronte al barbiere o davanti al ristorante locale. Un musicista capace di stabilire un rapporto con il suo pubblico. Uno che in ogni città in cui si sarebbe fermato, sarebbe riuscito a stabilire con la comunità locale dei legami che gli sarebbero stati utili in occasione di un suo futuro passaggio nei mesi o negli anni successivi.
Ok, queste cose sono state scritte a proposito dei bluesman del Delta degli anni ’20 e ’30 del secolo scorso, ma riassumono quello che io sto cercando di fare ora. Io viaggio, suono per il gusto stesso di fare musica. Essa, influenzata dalla mia interpretazione personale, ha le sue radici nel Delta blues.
Vivo secondo le mie regole e queste regole sono riassunte nel migliore dei modi da una cosa che una volta mi disse un amico di Winnipeg. Creatività, Avventura e Persone. Ci sono alcune cose che non farò mai: apparire nei miei video musicali! Portare il mio nome o la mia faccia su di una maglietta! Vendere la mia anima! Io mi diverto a far musica. Try to picture the archetypal image of a blues musician, outcast from society and persecuted by personal demons. A bluesman strumming his guitar with emphasis on both rhythm and a “bottleneck” slide. A typical street busker playing on any urban corner in front of the local barber-shop or restaurant. An artist with enough soul to establish a bond with his audience in whichever city he chooses, making friends with the local community, creating relationships which last until he passes through the city once more, be it a month or years later. Ok, these habits once applied to Delta Blues Musicians back in the 20ies and 30ies, last century - but they still sum up what Tim is doing nowadays. Traveling, playing for the sake of playing his blues, which has its roots deep in the Delta area with a touch of personal rhythm. Holehouse lives by his personal rules and those rules are best explained by something Tim’s friend from Winnipeg once quoted: Creativity, Adventure and People. Some things you do not do, like appear in your own music videos, print your name or face on a T-shirt. That’s like selling out your soul. Tim enjoys playing his music, so just let the good times roll!
